My Story

I started dancing at the age of 4 and have never stopped!  I knew from a very early age that this was the life I was going to lead. As a child I appeared in professional pantomimes and many amateur productions. I also attended the RAD Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre founded by Dame Louise Browne. I was lucky enough to be taught by Miss Browne for many years until her retirement.

After completing my A levels I gained a place on a full Betty Laine Scholarship at Laine Theatre Arts where I received professional training for 3 years. Whilst I was there I was appointed head girl and I was chosen to audition for Arlene Phillips.  I then began to work with the German production of Saturday Night Fever where I worked on live TV performances. After my 3 years I graduated with diplomas in both Dance and Musical Theatre, as well as an LTA diploma validated by the Trinity College London.

I then went on to work for a fabulous production company which took me abroad, where I worked with some amazing people and Choreographers. Unfortunately, my professional career was short lived due to an injury less than two years after my graduation. This then lead me to assist Choreographer and Artistic Director Chris Baldock on various shows (Chris was the resident director of Starlight Express and is the Principal of the Italia Conti Associates).

I then decided to move home to think of a plan B.  I had always wanted to run my own dance school so it seemed like the perfect time to do it as my sister Lucy had just completed her teacher training with the RAD, Dance Expression was then born. It has been nonstop since 2006 and the school has continued to grow into what it is today.

After many years of searching for the right property to convert into DE Studios, in 2013 it was found. After a very long time of decision making and building work along with the support of our students, their parents and our own families, we now have a fantastic dance school which I am extremely proud of!

Aside from all of this I also have a wonderful husband and two gorgeous children who themselves sacrifice so much for their love of DE. I could not do it without their love, support and understanding.

What do you love about dancing?

I love the freedom it gives children to express themselves and to grow in confidence. I love the discipline, commitment and respect it instills in children and mostly I love seeing the children achieve things with their hard work. Its a fabulous way to help children develope both physically and mentally and also to help keep them fit and healthy.

What do you like about working at Dance Expression?

I love the feeling that it’s my second home. The DE team are my best friends and working with children is the most rewarding job in the world. The kindness and positivity that is always in the air makes it a very special place to be!

What's your favourite thing about teaching?

Helping children achieve their goals and dreams no matter how big or small they may be. Making a difference to childrens lives and teaching them to be the best version of themselves.

Miss Anna is the fountain of knowledge! Nothing is too much trouble and she has given up her own time out of hours to help my daughter get where she is now. Absolutely beautiful lady, inside and out!
